Rauris and the Raurisertal

The community of Rauris has about 3200 inhabitants and is situated at an altitude of 950 meters in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg. The over 30 kilometer long valley ends at the foot of the 'Sonnblickgruppe', which is located in the center of the Hohetauern National Park. Rauris is rich in history and one of the oldest settlements in the Eastern Alps. The idyllic Rauriser valley still offers a lot of unspoiled nature with water springs and energy sources, but also a climate neutral ski resort and of course extensive hiking and biking terrain. The Hochalm in Rauris is an adventure for the whole family. The gondola takes you in the summer up to 1780 meters where various activities begin such as a falcon show, water playground, educational hiking trail and you can try to earn back your vacation by washing gold. After an active summer day you can relax in the heated outdoor swimming pool and enjoy the impressive mountain panorama in the background.

The snow-reliable ski area of the Rauriser Hochalmbahnen takes you in winter up to just below the 2211 meter high Reiβrachkopf and is a varied and family-friendly area with diverse descents for both beginners and advanced skiers. In winter, a total of 10 elevators operate in the ski area (950-2,175m), which together serve 33 kilometers of official slopes with a fun park and 4 km of lighted toboggan run. Outside the ski area there are several freeride and touring possibilities. Also for the winter wanderer, cross-country skier and ski tourer there are numerous possibilities, directly from the village to the valley end of Kolm Saigurn. For more information see also www.Hochalmbahnen.at

Popular excursion destinations in the region

Rauris also has a good connection to popular places like Zell am See and Kaprun. Just like the Gasteinertal they can be reached in about 25 minutes.

In the summer Zell am See offers many activities such as water sports or touring on the Zeller See and also for shopping, walking and cycling you will find perfect conditions. Kaprun offers with the Kitzsteinhorn glacier at a height of 3000 meters a summer ski resort as well as the impressive high mountain water reservoirs.

An absolute must is the Großglockner- hochalpenstraße. The Großglockner with its 3798 meters is the highest mountain in Austria and at the same time the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
